Visual Arts Cheshire: Inspirations from the Collections II

Professor Michael Sandle RA, who studied at Chester School of Art, is widely recognised as one of the finest sculptors in the world, and is also a brilliant draughtsman and printmaker.

The People of Roman Chester

Lecture Theatre Free. A chance to learn about some of the people of Roman Chester – men and women, soldiers and civilians, young and old, slave and free. Dr Peter Carrington’s illustrated talk is based on the Grosvenor Museum’s internationally important collection of tombstones, followed by an optional tour of the Stories in Stone gallery. The Centenary of the First World War: New Directions or Old Histories?

26 June @ 5.30pm - 7.30pm
In 2012 the British government pledged £50 million to mark the centenary of the Great War. This evening’s event sees four historians and heritage experts debate the wider achievements of the centenary: Jenny Macleod (University of Hull), Charlotte Czyzyk (Imperial War Museum), Jasdeep Singh (National Army Museum) and Kathrin Pieren (Jewish Museum, London).

Paintings by Rembrandt’s Workshop and Teniers
