The Great War: Modernist Art on the Front Line

18 July @ 1.30pm - 3.00pm

| £3

Lecture Theatre
Pay at the door.
Join Adrian Sumner for a look at Modernist art recording history. Not only were many of the most important Modernists (such as Paul Nash, Christopher Nevinson and David Bomberg) also Official War Artists, but their style, mostly derived from Cubism and Futurism, was the perfect way of describing the violence and inhumanity of the new, mechanised, industrial warfare. This lecture examines the many theatres of war, including the major contribution made to preserving life at sea by Dazzle patterning, creation of the marine artist Norman Wilkinson.
