This Summer – Chester Castle Revealed
There’s a chance to explore Chester Castle this summer. From 20 July to 3 September visitors will be able to enter free of charge, wander around the site and experience the views. Access will be available to the ground and first floor of the 12th century Agricola Tower. A new pop up exhibition telling the fascinating story of the Castle which can be traced back to 907 AD will be available thanks to a grant from the Earl of Chester Fund.
Visitors will be able to purchase refreshments on site and participate in a programme of weekend activities. Details of the events programme will be announced shortly.
Chester Castle is a heritage site and visitors with access issues may not be able to access all areas.
Fully accessible areas are the Inner Bailey and the Agricola Tower ground floor.
The Agricola Tower chapel is up one flight of spiral stairs.
The terrace is accessible by a tarmac slope.
The castle wall is accessible by two short flights of steps.
Visitors can access the castle from the city wall on Castle Drive (CH1 1BW) up the sally port steps or through the Castle Car Park with no steps (CH1 2DN).
